Huckacide

While I think of Gov. Huckabee as a 21st-century William Jennings Bryan, Rich Lowry argues that he’s the Howard Dean of 2008–because nominating him would be an act of suicide for his party.

I don’t see much difference between the analogies. Bryan lost three times (1896, 1900, and 1980) and led the Democratic party to minority status for a generation (its only victories, both by Woodrow Wilson, came when the Republicans were badly divided; Wilson never won a majority of the popular vote in either of his election wins).

  2. Great point, rightwingliberal. And of course, you mean to say that WJB’s third loss came in 1908. But if he had run in 1980, Ronald Reagan would have cleaned his clock!

    Whoops! Right, 1908.

Huckabee is the GOP Jimmy Carter!
